The system employs card readers in which vote record cards filled in by voters are inserted for analysis by a central counting system. Each card reader has a programmable logic unit which detects any cards with illegal markings etc., and rejects these cards to inform the voters can also be processed by the card reader and these cards are specially tagged so that even if they are illegally completed the machine does not reject them. The machine can be used for candidate and/or office voting and "slate voting".
