Hg to separate a plurality of relatively narrow boiling range lube base fractions, a higher fraction boiling substantially all above 1000‹ F. and a vacuum resid fraction; each of the relatively narrow boiling range fractions is treated by solvent extraction followed by dewaxing to produce normal and premium grade lube blending fractions, at least part of the higher fraction is admixed with a portion of the vacuum resid fraction and treated by propane deasphalting to remove an asphalt phase and solvent extraction to produce a bright stock. Fig. 1 illustrates a process in which the fractions from the vacuum distillation and the propane deasphalting are subjected to solvent extraction with furfural, solvent dewaxing with methyl ethyl ketone and a hydrofinishing in a blocked flow operation. The distillation can be carried out in a packed tower operating with a pressure drop of less than 15 mm. Hg. Blended asphalts can be produced from a mixture of two or more of the vacuum tower higher fraction 26, the vacuum tower bottoms 8, the asphalt tar 36, and the furfural extract 76. The blends can be subjected to oxidation.
