1379151 Roller cutters KENNAMETAL Inc 18 April 1972 17904/72 Heading E1F A rolling cutter for the cutting means of a tunnelling machine has a shaft 10 provided with spaced bearings 18 confined between end members 12 that are fixed to the shaft and a rotary cutting member 24 surrounding the shaft and disposed between the end members and supported on the bearings. This cutting member 24 is generally cylindrical arid has an outwardly projecting annular rib 26 in the axially central region of the member. The rib is provided with radial bores 28, 30 in which are hard metal inserts 32, e.g. tungsten carbide inserts, are secured. These bores are arranged in two sets, the axes of the bores of one set being located in a plane which is on one side of the axially central plane of the rib and parallel to said central plane whilst the axes of the bores of the other set are located in a plane which is on the other side of said central plane and is parallel to the central plane. Each of the inserts has a major portion thereof on 'the respective side of the central plane and a minor portion on the other side of the central plane. Preferably the rib is of V-shaped cross section, the inserts are rod like and with outer ends conforming to surfaces of the rib.
