The map represents the countries to be conquered, each country possessing a number of armies proportional to its importance, this number being inscribed on the map. The armies are represented by identical shaped pieces which are of various colours and which may be placed on the map in accordance with the rules of the game. Each player has several countries forming alliances. The players are grouped in teams, each player choosing an army and each team choosing a standard. The standards are represented by some identical pieces of varied colours which can be placed in each country on the map. The map may include all the European countries and some of the North African and Asian countries.
