The surroundings of the house when under construction are improved by carrying out earth-moving work during the time when the spoil excavated cannot otherwise be moved. Typically the spoil excavated for the foundations can be used to landscape the surroundings, on the spot, and without transporting it away. Material already on site, e.g. rocks, trees, stones can be used to stabilise embankments onto which the topsoil, turf, etc. skimmed off during the foundation excavation is spread. Plaster rubbish or municipal refuse can also be used to aid the landscaping effect.
