Gripper bobbib brake is formed by an arcuate leaf spring acting on one side of the bobbin flange and mounted on the bobbin spigot at the base of the gripper case, the leaf spring being prevented from rotating by a pawl which engages a recess in the base. Bobbin is prevented from over running whilst photo-electric monitoring of the flanged bobbin is not interfered with.
