1461661 Separating gases BALZERS PATENTUND BETEILIGUNGS AG 31 May 1974 [27 June 1973] 24211/74 Heading B1L Gases of differing molecular weights are separated in an apparatus comprising an evacuable chamber 1, an inlet port for the gases 13, an outlet port 15 arranged opposite the inlet, at least one further inlet port 7 for an auxiliary gas arranged relative to 13 in such manner that the gas jets generated by the two inlet ports intersect, valve means 8 for controlling the flow of auxiliary gas and a connection 17 for a pump 18 for removing the remainder of the gas. By way of example only the Fig. shows the apparatus connected to the outlet from gas chromatograph 6 and the inlet to mass spectrometer 9. The supply line to inlet port 7 may be divided into several branches each being provided with a valve.
