The barrier, swivelling about a vertical axis, is for use on carriage-ways separated by guide-rails, especially on motorways and main roads, with a post near the guide-rail providing the vertical axis, and the barrier able to swing from a rest position, parallel to the guide-rail, to a transverse check position at right angles to this, with a stop at the open end. The barrier comprises a carrier shaped-section unit, with spaced foldable rods on top connected to a warning barrier parallel to the carrier and able to fold onto it. The height of the post is such that the warning barrier can bring under the guide-rail bars when folded onto the carrier. There may be wheels and/or folding supports beneath the carrier section, and there is no projection beyond the guide-rail in the rest position.
