The shopping basket for supermarket use is made from wire and one of the basket sides swings outwards to facilitate the unloading of goods. The wire basket has a handle which swivels in brackets. The hinged side carries the handle bracket. When the side is rotated into the closed position the hooked end of the handle engages with the holding bracket and locks the hinged side to form a basket for accommodating goods. The side is readily released at the checkout for quick and easy unloading of goods. The goods no longer need to be raised over a basket wall but can be spread out on the checkout desk straightaway.
