Repair device for valves, bow thrusters or propeller shaft glands on e.g. large oil tankers enables repair work to be carried out without the vessel entering dry dock. The device mainly consists of a vertical or inclined duct (2) which is kept between atmospheric pressure and an over-pressure. The duct enters through the ships deck, and connects near the component to be repaired. At the top the duct has an air lock chamber above maximum water level. The air lock chamber (8) has a double hatch arrangement, giving entry facility for workmen. The duct bottom has a lateral connection and a sealing hatch cover (9) below which a box (10) is formed which may have a vent pipe and a defrosting pipe arrangement.
