1371453 Explosive compositions IRECO CHEMICALS 27 June 1972 [28 June 1971] 29957/72 Heading C1D A blasting composition suitable for detonation under high pressure and temperature comprises at least 40% by weight of a high explosive, nitrated, aromatic organic compound, for example TNT, at least partially dissolved in a liquid comprising nitrobenzene, mononitrotoluene, and/or dinitrotoluene. The composition may also include RDX or HMX. Finely flaked aluminium may be added and also a thickening agent such as finely-divided silica or alumina. Other additives referred to are boron, magnesium, silicon, gilsonite, and coal. The explosive is in fluid or slurry form and may be pumped to the bottom of deep wells. Alternatively the mixture may be heated to an all-liquid state before pumping, so that on cooling TNT crystallizes out and increases the sensitivity of the blasting composition.
