The scraper is operative in one direction across the tank and retracted to return without scraping. As the scraper carriage comes to each end of its travel, a bell crank lever is pivoted by cam action of the underside of the carriage track and a roller on one end of the lever, the other end of which carries the scraper blade; the resets the blade for its next stroke. The reset action repeats wuite automatically so long as the carriage traverses back and forth, so no motor is required on the carriage which can be pulled by a remote traction motor in protected conditions.
