Road foundation compsn., comprises 60-90% metallurgical slag obtd. from oxygen blowing of cast iron which is low in or free of phosphorous, 10-40% blast furnace slag and opt. 1-2% quick lime. The metallurgical slag may contain 6-12% of free lime. Advantages are reduced movement of sublayers, hence reduced movement of the top layer of road surfacing. Material is cheaper than ordinary sub layer material because the metallurgical slag is recovered from a metallurgical waste.
