Mixed crystal material having the formula LaxY3-xAl5 O12, where x is 0-1.2 is useful for prodn. of monocrystal solid body lasers. It is prepd. by sintering and/or fusing a mixt. of 61-90 mol.% Y3Al5O12 and 39-10 mol.% La3Al5O12. The La-, Y- and Al cpds. may be present as all oxides, carbonates, halides or nitrates, or as oxides and/or carbonates and/or halides and/or nitrates. Comminution and/or homogenisation of sinter material can take place between each sintering.
