Aqueous effluent systems are aerated by injecting air into a full tank in which a framework of baffles is submerged. The baffles break up the rising bubbles and increase oxygenation. Each row should contain at least two baffles and there should be at least two rows, which are staggered with reference to the row below. They can have an inverted channel section or circular segmental section. A further alternative is perforated corrugated sheet, with peaks and troughs staggered between rows.
