A circulatory type electric water heater has a core in the form of insulation material with a set of vertical channels which form a continuous zig-zag path along which the water flows, some of the channels being of a smaller diameter and an intermediate diameter, and some of a larger diameter, these housing heating coils. The core is approximately circular in cross section, and the last heated channel is located at the centre, the remainder of the channels being arranged in a pattern around it. Even should the last heater winding burn through the channel body remains outwardly sealed so that no damage can be caused by water.
