1389230 Making self-locking bolts EASON CORP 26 Sept 1972 [21 Oct 1971] 44483/72 Heading B3A [Also in Division F2] To make a metal bolt self-locking, a portion of the threaded shank is cleaned with a solvent such as trichlorethylene or methyl ethyl ketones, sprayed with atomized semi-molten particles of a first metal from a wire-fed spray gun 26 to form a layer 14 of spongy or porous metal, and sprayed with atomized semi-molten particles of a second metal dissimilar to the first to form a second layer 15 bonded to and covering the first layer 14, and also of spongy or porous structure. The first layer 14 is of a metal which bonds well to the bolt material, e.g. steel on a steel bolt, and the second layer 15 is a copper alloy, e.g. copperzinc, and has a lower modulus of elasticity than the first layer. The bolt may have a final coat of lubricant.
