Wire and small sections are cut to length continuously on an acceleration-free shear which has the blades set longitudinally on the periphery of contrary rotating rolls. The weight of the shear can thus be reduced and the speed of operation increased. In an alternative arrangement, a laser cutter or a plasma cutter is used instead of a shear.
