Title cpd. of formula (I): FC(CF3)2-O-(CF2)5CF3, can be used as a gas-transport medium, contg. dissolved O2 air or O2-contg. gas, for studying the respiration of mammals and for flushing out the respiratory system to remove foreign matter e.g. mucous secretions in the lungs, bronchi and trachea. (I) can also be used as an inert solvent or diluent in reactions involving the use of O2-contg. gases. (I) may be prepd. by reacting FC(CF3)2-O-(CF2)3-CF2I with a fluorinating agent e.g. SbF4.
