1,241,463. Points for toy railway. M. ERNST. 9 Aug., 1968, No. 38059/68. Heading A6S. Toy electric railway points are provided with conductor plates 11 and 12 on which the wheel flanges may run and raised conductive riding surfaces 18, 19, 20, 21 for the wheel rims so that on traversing the points a pair of train wheels are isolated from the drive current only for a short stretch in the vicinity of the frogs 5. Route setting tongues 14 are provided on the conductive plates, their outer ends engaging cranked portions in the rails. In the single turnout points of Figure 1, and in the double slip points of Figure 2, frogs 5 and rails 6 and 7 are non-conducting. The double slip points are shown set for straight across travel, the wheels on both sides engaging tongues 14 and rails 20 to pass the points. When the tongues are set for curved travel, the wheels on the outside of the curve initially travel on a rail 20 and are then routed by the action of the tongue on the inner wheels so that they ride on the straight side of that guide portion 21 furthest from the inner wheels, the wheel flanges running on the conductive plate 11 or 12 to maintain continuity of power supply as the rim moves from rail 20 to portion 21. Similarly the wheels then move from portion 21 to a second rail 20. Each switch tongue 14 may have an eye attached near its end and connected to one of two metal springs 26 (Figure 3, not shown) running beneath the points, the springs being operable by a pivoted lever 27 having suitable cam surfaces engaging the springs to set the four tongues simultaneously.
