Fibres, films and other shaped structures obtained by wet spinning polymers of acrylonitrile contg. 85 wt.% acrylonitrile in the polymer are dyed or optically bleached by passing the shaped structure through a first stretching stage where it is stretched 2.2-5.8 times its original strength, washing to remove solvent, dyeing or bleaching in a bath contg. a suitable dye or brightener at 10-95 degrees C stretching and fixing the structure in a second stretching stage in an aq. bath at 92-102 degrees C where it is stretched 1.1-3.6 times its length and finishing and drying the structure inthe normal manner.
