Injection takes place along a direction practically parallel to the symmetry axis of such an accelerator, deflection is achieved in the plane of the accelerator trajectory using a deviator-condenser. The two faces of the condenser in relation to the ion beam, are formed by rotation of the curves determined by the equation z2 = 1/2 (r2 - ro2) plus-or-minus C in respect of cylindrical co-ordinates; axis z is parallel to the accelerator symmetry axis, ro a constant length and C a constant governing the width of the slot of the condenser; the height of the condenser along the z axis and the angle formed by the azimuth limiting faces are chosen so that the ions can be deflected in the condenser on an equipotential surface and exit in the median plane of the accelerator.
