Production of better looking stocking tops from continuous filament yarn are made by stretching, heat treating and winding on a carrier into a yarn body which absorbs water from its surrounding atmosphere. Storing the yarn body and the knitting of stocking tops from the continuous filament is carried out by enclosing the yarn bodies dueing storage i n a moisture-impermeable cover thus preventing it from reaching moisture equilibrium with the surrounding atmosphere, and the moisture content of the yarn before knitting remains low and spontaneous crystallisation of the polyamide before knitting is suppressed. Pref. polyamide is polyhexamethylene adipamide.
