[Also in Division C3] A composition is obtained by reacting, in a strongly alkaline medium, an aliphatic aldehyde containing no more than four carbon atoms with an N-3-oxohydrocarbon-substituted acrylamide of the formula in which each of RSP1/SP, RSP2/SP, RSP3/SP, RSP4/SP and RSP5/SP is individually hydrogen or a hydrocarbon radical and RSP6/SP is hydrogen or a C 1 _ 10 alkyl radical.
