A resin is produced by reacting a methylene donor and a methylene acceptor in a rubber stock in the presence of a complex of the formula FORM:1116547/C3/1 where R, R1, R2, R3 and R4 are H or hydrocarbon, and when R and R1 are each H, then C is tertiary or primary being in the latter case connected to a tertiary carbon; N optionally forming with R1, R3 and C a saturated heterocyclic ring of not more than six members when R is H, but otherwise when there are two primary alpha carbon atoms, one at least is connected to a tertiary carbon atom, and when there are three alpha carbon atoms then one at least is connected to another carbon atom; or R is H, R1 is phenyl, R2 and R4 together represent imino and R3 is anilino. The rubber may be a natural rubber or a conjugated diene polymeric rubber, e.g. polybutadiene, polyisoprene, butadiene/styrene copolymers and butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymers. Lists of suitable methylene donors and methylene acceptors are given.ALSO:The invention comprises compounds of the formulae FORM:1116547/C2/1 FORM:1116547/C2/2 where R2, R3, R4 and R6 are each alkyl radicals of 1-10 carbon atoms. The compounds are prepared reacting boron trifluoride with the appropriate amine. In addition to those of the above formulae complexes of boron tri-fluoride with neopentylamine, dicyclohexyl-amine, isopropylcyclohexylamine, isopropyl-pseudocumidine, ditertiarybutylamine, piperidine, pyrrolidine, ethyleneimine, dineopentyl-amine, trimethylamine, triethylamine, tri-n-propylamine, tri-isopropylamine, N - isopropylpiperidine, 2,6 - dimethylmorpholine, morpholine and diphenylguanidine are described.ALSO:A cord of cotton, rayon, nylon, polyester or polycarbonate is reinforced with a resin produced by reacting a methylene donor and a methylene acceptor in a rubber stock in the presence of a complex of the formula FORM:1116547/D1-D2/1 where R, R1, R2, R3 and R4 are H or hydro carbon, and when R and R1 are each H then C is tertiary or primary being in the latter case connected to a tertiary carbon; N optionally forming with R1, R3 and C a saturated heterocyclic ring of not more than six members when R is H, but otherwise when there are two primary alpha carbon atoms one at least is connected to a tertiary carbon atom, and when there are three alpha carbon atoms then one at least is connected to another carbon atom; or R is H, R1 is phenyl, R2 and R4 together represent imino and R3 is anilino.
