A landing stage for V.T.O.L. aircraft comprises a deck 32 having a series of apertures 41 each of which has a downward opening closure 40 with means 42 to 42SP1111/SP of limiting the opening of the closure 4. The apertures 41 are provided to deflect the downwardly exhausted V.T.O.L. engine efflux to prevent re-entry into the engine. The apertures 41 may be either narrow rectangular, the closures 40 being flaps hinged along their long sides, or circular holes, the closures 40 being vertically reciprocable valves, Fig. 6 (not shown). The landing stage may comprise a series of decks side by side at different levels, Fig. 1 (not shown).
