1,018,670. Valves. BRITISH ENGINES Ltd. June 15, 1964 [June 27, 1963], No. 25546/63. Heading F2V. A valve in which movement of the closure member 10 is effected by eccentric 25, crank or the like is arranged so that the mechanical advantage of the mechanism increases as the closure member moves in the flow-restricting direction. The closure member is connected by a non-rotatable stem 35, adjustable shims 38, a crosshead 30 and a connecting rod 28 to the eccentric 23 which is rotated by worm gearing 19, 21. The worm gear may be irreversible or be locked by tightening a screwed bush 40. A needle bearing 27 is fitted to the eccentric which is enclosed in an oil bath provided with seals 25, 32. A valve-position indicator 26 is mounted on the worm wheel shaft 22.
