Mixtures of alpha-olefins (not including ethylene) with each other and/or with ethylene are polymerized at +30 DEG to -100 DEG C., keeping the monomers in the liquid state, and using a catalyst formed from an organo-metallic compound of a metal of Group I, II or III with a hydrocarbon-soluble compound of a transition metal of Group IV, V or VI. Specified copolymers are ethylene-propylene, ethylenebutene and ethylene-propylene-butene terpolymer. The process preferably takes place in the absence of solvents although small amounts may be present. Specified catalyst components are trialkyl aluminium, dialkyl aluminium halides and dialkyl aluminium hydrides, titanium tetrachloride and vanadium tetrachloride. Specifications 856,733, 856,736 and 856,737 are referred to.
