摘要
Water-insoluble organic liquids (e.g. mineral oils) are absorbed from water and water surfaces by applying to the surface a foamed synthetic resin which does not dissolve in the liquids to be absorbed. The foam is suitably granulated and may be transporte in a compressed condition and re-expanded at the point of use. It may be applied as a suspension in water. The preferred foamed polymers are styrne polymers which may be treated with surface-active agents or binders.ALSO:Oil is removed from water by hydrophobic, granular, foamed polystyrene or copolymer thereof, which is used as a filter or spread on to open polluted surfaces as a suspension. The material may incorporate surface active agents or binders and is stored in a compressed state.
