1,122,094. Two-part couplings. USINE METALLURGIQUE DOLOISE S.A. 18 Feb., 1966 [10 Nov., 1965], No. 7209/66. Heading H2E. A socket contact comprises an inner member having a plurality of inwardly-bowed resilient contact fingers which are housed in longitudinal grooves -in a surrounding metal body, the contact fingers being compressed by an inserted plug member so that the plug engages both the contact fingers and the body portions which separate them. In one embodiment, Fig. 1 and Figs. 2-6 (not shown), the body comprises a grooved tubular portion 1 fitted to a base portion 3, the inner member 2 being riveted and welded to the base 3 so that contact fingers 8 lie in grooves 9 of the tubular portion 1. In a modification (Figs. 13-17, not shown) the contact fingers (39) are housed in slots between partitions (31) which extend integrally from a base portion, a surrounding sleeve (33) being provided. In another embodiment (Figs. 20-21, not shown), the inner member has two resilient fingers (64 and 65) with rounded end portions, the surrounding body (60) being formed in one piece. In a further embodiment (Figs 22-23, not shown) a split socket extends integrally from a base portion (72) so that its fingers (71) are located between inwardly-projecting ribs (73) of a surrounding tubular member (70). In a further embodiment (Figs 24-25, not shown), wires (82) which are inclined to the socket axis lie in grooves in, a metal tube (84) and form resilient contacts, a surrounding metal tube being provided. The socket contact may be shaped to receive a plug member of rectangular-or other cross-section as in the embodiment of Figs 18- 19 (not shown). Alternatively, a plug contact comprises a resilient member with contact fingers which lie in individual grooves in the body of the plug member.
