A paint with a polyvinylacetate vehicle contains 0.5% by weight of an antifungal agent of the general formula FORM:1002481/C3/1 wherein R is a C3- 9-alkyl group and R1 is a C1- 4 alkyl group or a hydrogen, the groups R and R1 collectively containing not less than 3 and not more than 9 carbon atoms.ALSO:The invention comprises compounds of the formula FORM:1002481/C2/1 where R is an alkyl group of 3-9 carbon atoms and R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of up to 4 carbon atoms and wherein the total number of carbon atoms in the groups R and R1 collectively is not less than 3 nor more than 9 and the preparation thereof by condensing an a ,b -unsaturated aliphatic aldehyde of the formula FORM:1002481/C2/2 with thiosemicarbazide.ALSO:Leather is treated with 0.2% of an antifungal agent of the formula FORM:1002481/A5-A6/1 wherein R is an alkyl group containing 3-9 carbon atoms and R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing up to 4 carbon atoms, there being at least 3 and not more than 9 carbon atoms in the groups R and R1 collectively.
