Apparatus for cutting blanks for bags, envelopes &c. from a moving web comprises a rotatable roller 3, Fig. 1, supporting formcutting tools co-operating with a fixed edge 14 whose contact area with the web may be a plane face, or finely polished and shaped in cross-section as the sector of a cylinder, and spaced from the cutting tool by an amount less than the thickness of the web to be cut. As described, the edge is of hard metal with a cross-sectional radius from 1 to 5 mm., and its distance from the cutting tool edge is adjusted by set screws 23 and by turning eccentric bushes 19 which are fixed in the side walls 1, 2 of the apparatus. In a second embodiment a suction roll supplies a blank to the form-cutting roller where it is held by suction; after cutting, the blank is run on to a suction-roller for delivery to a further station of an envelopecutting machine.
