Multi-coloured stamps or similar value tokens are produced in a rotary intaglio press having a plurality of printing cylinders in which at least one printing cylinder is clothwiped whilst the rest are wiped with one or more doctor blades. Each printing cylinder is of steel, the image to be printed thereby being produced thereon by pressing a roller carrying the image in relief against the cylinder. The image on the roller is obtained through pressure contact between the roller and a hardened original engraved plate having the image thereon in reverse. According to the Specification the last impression is printed on a paper web by a cloth-wiped engraved steel cylinder the other impressions being printed from engraved steel printing cylinders wiped by doctor blades.
