761,094. Regulating; cooling. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. April 1, 1954 [April 2, 1953], No. 9604/54. Classes 7 (2) and 7 (6). [Also in Group XIII] In regulating means for a fuel-irijection engine the fuel-air ratio is regulated with the aid of a single thermostat 36 which responds directly or indirectly to the temperature of a coolant or lubricant flowing through or in contact with the engine as well as to the temperature of the combustion air. A pump 1 delivers water into the cylinder cooling jacket from whence it flows through a space 37 and returns to the pump either via a pipe 8 or a radiator 6 depending upon the position of a thermostatically-controlled valve 4. A fuelinjection pump 9 has its regulating rod 11 connected by a lever 20 to both a governor diaphragm 19, and, through another link 25, to the valve 4; the diaphragm chamber 18 is connected to the induction manifold 15 adjacent the throttle valve 14. The thermostat 36, which projects through the space 37 into the air admission passage 39, is connected by a link 40 to the lever 20; the thermal element in the valve 4 may be dispensed with. In an air-cooled engine the thermostat is placed in the path of the air downstream of the engine. In a modification, the thermostat is arranged to act upon a second throttle valve, not shown, instead of the injection pump the latter being regulated by the suction in the induction manifold as described above. The thermostat may be acted upon by the air used to cool the cooling water, the engine lubricant or the air used to cool the latter ; the thermostat may be arranged in contact with the walls through which the medium is flowing instead of, or in addition to, the temperature of the medium itself. Specification 761,092 is referred to.
