[Class 37] Apparatus for comparing magnetic or con ducting materials comprises a Hartley oscillator with a pick-up coil 24 connected between the grid and cathode of the oscillator valve 12, and adapted to receive the test material as a core, so that the particular value of the tuning capacity 23 at which oscillations cease, such cessation being indicated by a meter 16 in the valve anode lead, indicates the characteristics of the test material.
