590,077. Steam boilers. THOMPSON (WOLVERHAMPTON), Ltd., J., and THOMPSON, W. J. Nov. 14, 1944, No. 22430. [Class 123 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] In a Lancashire &c. steam boiler, the shell A and flues C respectively are made of sections a', a2, a3 and c1, c2, c3 having abutting end edges which are welded together. The end plates B, B1 of the shell are similarly butt-welded to the corresponding shell sections a1, a3. The flues are preferably corrugated at C and are adapted to be inserted and removed through the front end plate B, and the ends thereof are riveted or welded within inwardly or outwardly directed flanges b, b' in the two end plates. As shown, the diameter of the end of the flue engaging the flange b, with the interposition of a packing ring D, is made equal to the maximum diameter of the corrugations C, the other end being somewhat reduced.
