[Class 26] A sanitary pail or like device for the disposal of soiled sanitary towels and septic bandages, comprises a receptacle 10 containing liquid capable of reducing the towels &c. to liquid form and provided with a closed top 11 formed by a segmented lid 12 to which is rigidly attached a plate 15 which, when the lid is open, forms the bottom of a chamber 16 for receiving the towels &c. The upper end of the wall of the container is shaped to form a pouring lip 19 which is covered by a hinged flap 18. An agitator disposed within the container comprises a rod 20 rotatably and slidably mounted in bearings 21, 22 and provided with metal blades 23, 24, the rod being rotated, when required, by a handle 25.
