569,344. Shuttleless looms. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Nov. 4, 1942, No. 15540. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1941. [Class 142 (ii)] A loom of the type employing gripper shuttles and stationary weft bobbins, and in which after a weft thread has been inserted in the fabric the thread is held at the edge of the fabric and cut, is provided with means whereby the weft thread which is cut is held until a weft thread drawn from another bobbin has been inserted into the shed. A transfer device 17 is provided for holding the weft thread at the edge of the fabric and for inserting the cut end into a shuttle 10 at a transfer level 61. At the picking end of the loom a shuttle-lifting mechanism 21 is provided for lifting gripper shuttles to the transfer position and thence to picking level 62, and at the catch box end a plunger 12 depresses the picked shuttles to the level of the conveyer 13. The shuttle-lifting mechanism 21 is operated by a cam 28 and lever 26 so as to have vertical movement, and by a second cam 35 and levers 31, 33 so as to have a swinging movement towards and from the loom, and is provided with passages 22, 23 to receive shuttles, and a forked member 42 actuated by a third cam 46 is provided for holding one of the shuttles when the member 21 is moved away from the loom to the transfer position 48 in which the device 17 transfers the cut end to the next shuttle to be picked.
