[Class 40(v)] A frame aerial 10, for short-wave directionfinding, is connected to the receiver by a transmission line 14, having such constants that #L1/Z0=tan alpha x, where L1 is the inductance of the frame and line, Z0 is the characteristic impedance of the line, alpha the wave-length constant of the line, and x its length. Such a line acts as a band-pass filter for several bands of frequencies, Fig. 2 (not shown), so that the same aerial may be used for several frequencies:' A switch 16, Fig. 3, may connect one of several tuned circuits A, B, C to line 14, either directly or through an additional length of line 17 or filter so chosen as to make the above equation hold good. Such a system may also be used for direction finding on long wave-lengths, e.g. where using the same aerials with separate goniometers for long and short waves, filters or impedances being arranged to keep the long waves out of the short-wave goniometer and vice versa, Fig. 4 (not shown).
