549,964. Stopping leaks. ABT, R. WOHLER-. April 28, 1941. No. 5475. Convention date, May 5, 1940. [Class 113 (i)] Plates 7, Fig. 1, for stopping leaks in ships' hulls are carried by ropes 16 connected at each end to carriers 5, 6 which, by ropes 21, can be moved to any required position along guide rails 3 extending along the ship's sides. The rails 3 are supported from the ship's rail 2 by bars 10 having ring members engaging grooves 9 in the rails 3 and the carriers 5, 6 are guided on the rails 3 by rollers 11, Fig. 4, and keys 14 engaging upper and lower grooves 12, 13 in the rails. The rollers 11 can move freely past the bars 10. At one end, the ropes 16 are wound round rollers 15 carried by the carriers 5, 6 and connected to hooks 22. The other ends of the ropes are hooked to the carriers on the opposite side of the ship and the rail 3 on which these last carriers are mounted is then rotated to tighten up the ropes. A rope is then attached to one of a number of hooks on this end of the ropes and secured to the ship's rail so that the rail 3 may be freed for operation on other closure plates at different positions along the ship's side.
