498,198. Charts &c. ROCHE, C. P. V. Oct. 14, 1937, No. 27965. [Class 146 (ii)] Apparatus permitting of ascertaining data relative to the probable location of aircraft in flight over known routes comprises a board or sheet, a distance scale along one edge or side of the board, a time scale carried on a member or members so mounted on the board that the scale can be moved relatively to the board, and which is disposed along another edge of the board at right-angles to the distance scale so that the two scales have a common origin, a number of cords or the like, and means for holding in a tautened condition each of the cords between any two points on the board so as to indicate graphically relatively to the two scales the flight of an aircraft along its route. The board 1 may be similar to an ordinary drawing board, and may be provided with an intermediate cork linoleum layer, and a top layer of white fabric provided with markings representing rectangular co - ordinates. The upright scale arranged at the left-hand side of the board represents distances of destination airports and schedule reporting points from the home airport, and the horizontal scale is a time scale arranged on a tape 2 mounted on two spool devices 3 secured to the board whereby the scale can be moved according to the time of the day and thus enable a short board to be used. To enable the lieight of aircraft to be recorded at any given time, an intermediate time-scale tape 2x is provided, and the upper part of the left-hand side of the board is provided with a height scale. The displacementtime curve of each aircraft is represented by a fine elastic cord 9 provided at each end with a metal tag which serves for the attachment of a pin 11. Identification flags or labels 13 attached to further pins are placed adjacent each cord, and the pins of the flags or plain pins may be used for deflecting the cords intermediately. Instead of the upright distance scale being marked on the board &c., a three-sided rule having three different scales thereon may be pivotally mounted on the board. Also, instead of a movable tape for the horizontal time scale, there may be provided a pivotally mounted five or six-sided rule. In a further modification, the tape time scale is replaced by a slidably mounted rule. Several graph boards may be used in combination, and these boards may be used in combination with boards giving detailed information of a number of routes.
