[Class 100 (i)] Apparatus for guiding the cloth in cloth shearing, teasing, calendering, or other clothtreating machines comprises a device such as a cylinder or the like adapted to feed or guide the cloth through the machine, which is arranged to be displaced automatically in a direction parallel to the axis thereof so that the cloth is displaced transversely to the direction of feeding, and a table which guides the cloth upon entry into the machine, arranged to be displaced simultaneously with the displacement of the cylinder in such manner that the cloth moving from the table is accommodated to the displaced position of the cylinder. The apparatus is described as applied to a cloth-shearing machine. A hollow cylinder 7 provided with a roughened surface is rotatably mounted by means of ball bearings on a non-rotatable shaft 5 which is slidable at one end in a bearing bracket 6. The other end of the shaft 5 is screw-threaded and engages in a screwed bearing which is held in a bearing bracket 4 and rotatably mounted on a ball bearing therein. Two pulleys 1, 2 are secured to the screwed bearing, which on rotation move the shaft 5 and cylinder 7 longitudinally. A brake band co-operates with a collar on the ball bearing extension of the cylinder 7 at the end adjacent the bearing 6. The feeding hopper or table 15 on which the cloth is placed in folds is mounted on a shaft 11 for limited movement at right angles thereto, and for longitudinal movement thereon. The shaft 11 is rotatable in a fixed bearing 12, and passes through a pivotal support 13 mounted on the side of the table 15. The support 13 carries an internally-threaded sleeve which engages a threaded portion on the shaft 11, so that the table 15 moves along the shaft on rotation of the latter. The table 15 is provided at one corner with a leg 17 pivotally mounted on the floor by means of a ball joint; while the other three corners are provided with swivelling-wheels 171. The thrust imparted to the table on the rotation of the shaft 11 causes the table to perform small rotational movements about the leg 17. A feeler device adapted to test the position of the cloth operates a mechanism to drive the pulley 1 in the desired direction to move the cylinder 7 transversely to register the cloth to the correct position, and the pulley 2 drives simultaneously the shaft 11 through a pulley 10 secured thereon to move the table 15 and the cloth thereon in the same direction as the cylinder 7.
