410,864. Golf-practising appliances. BRADBURY, H. W., 16, Aberdeen Road, and COWELL, F. W., 82, Heathfield Road, both in Croydon. Aug. 4, 1933, No. 22089/32. [Class 132 (ii).] A captive ball device comprises a ball on an arm rigid with a horizontal spindle journalled in a fork on a vertical spindle having a pinion driving a counter registering the result of a blow on the ball by a club. The device comprises a base 1, a vertical spindle 2 fixed in a ball-bearing 8 by means of a nut 9, an arm 5 connected rigidly with a horizontal spindle 3 by means of screws 14 the ends of which are journalled freely in a fork 15 formed at the top of the vertical spindle 2, and a ball 6 free to revolve on the arm 5. The spindles 2 and 3 form a universal joint for the ball 6. The ball bearing 8 is protected by a cover plate 12, and the ball is prevented from leaving the arm 5 by the nut 11 locked by a pin 10. A counter 4 connected to the vertical spindle 2 by gear wheels 7 registers the result of a blow on the ball.
