374,204. Spray carburetters; pipejoints. CARBURATORI MEMINI SOC. ANON. ITALIANA, 16, Via Poliziano, Milan, Italy. April 14, 1931, No. 11089. Convention date, April 14, 1930. [Class 7 (iii).] Consists in pivoted float-feed mechanism which permits carburetters of aeroplane engines to function in any position. A cylindrical constant level chamber 4 is formed integrally with the carburetter body 1 and is provided with a cover 41. A cage 5 containing the float mechanism is pivoted about the axis A-B of the chamber which axis is arranged at rightangles to the longitudinal axis of the aeroplane. The pivots 6, 7 which are conical or spherical, bear respectively against a seat 8 in the cover 41 and a resilient seat 9 loaded by a spring 10. Petrol enters at 11 and is controlled by a valve 17 actuated by a float 15 pivoted at 16. The cage is provided with a flange 19 and depending fins 191 between both of which and the chamber 4 a small clearance space is left. Weights may be provided at the lower ends of the fins. The chamber 4 is open to atmosphere at 23, and at 25 a calibrated orifice is provided to control the flow of fuel to the nozzle 22. In a modification, Fig. 3, the pivots 6, 7 are replaced by journal or ball bearings 6a, 7a. The bearing 6a forms a passage for fuel admitted at 12a, and coacts with one face of a bearing ring 30 having opposite concave surfaces, the other face of the ring contacting with a bored piece 29 carried by a flexible diaphragm 28 subjected to the pressure of the fuel and of a spring 31. The chamber 4 is open to atmosphere through apertures 23, 32, and the choke tube 3 may be slotted at 34 to facilitate its removal.
