摘要
Zinciferous material is treated for the removal of cadmium, or cadmium and lead, by subjecting it as a porous moist layer to a sintering operation in the presence of a chloridizing agent under conditions rendering incapable, or tending to prevent, the formation of strongly basic reaction products, so that cadmium and lead chlorides are votatilized with substantially no volatilization of zinc. Chlorinating agents specified are an aqueous solution of zinc chloride; or hydrochloric acid; or zinc sulphate, sulphuric or other acid and a chloride such as of sodium, calcium or barium. In one method of procedure, partly roasted zinciferous concentrate is mixed with 5 per cent of coal dust and say 5 per cent of zinc chloride in solution, the amount of water used being such as will give a suitable consistency to the mixture. Dependent on the quality of the ore 5-30 per cent is p employed. A minimum of work is expended in the mixing. The ignition period should be about six times that required to ignite the surface of the charge, and the discharged sinter should not be red hot. The volatilized fume may be collected in water, and the lead and cadmium replaced by zinc. The chloride solution thus obtained may be re-used in the sintering operation. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the removal of other impurities, tin, antimony, and bismuth being specified. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Zinciferous material is treated for the removal of cadmium, or cadmium and lead, by subjecting it as a porous moist layer to a sintering operation in the presence of a chloridizing agent under conditions rendering incapable, or tending to prevent, the formation of strongly basic reaction products, so that cadmium and lead chlorides are volatilized with substantially no volatilization of zinc.
