Optical-projection apparatus.-In taking composite kinematograph pictures, the action is photographed in front of a screen b upon which are projected, from the front or from the rear, kinematograph pictures of the appropriate scenery &c., represent. ing in correct perspective and proportions, far distance effects, background, and middle ground, which ordinarily are constituted by painted scenery and models. The taking camera a and the background projector d are synchronised by the use of either synchronous driving motors, or a common rigid transmission gear. A powerful light-source is used in the projector, such as an electric arc arranged in a water-cooled lantern provided with a condenser of " Pyrex " glass. More than one projector may be employed to increase the brilliance of the pictures on the screen; each projects the same picture-series, and distortion of the projected pictures is prevented by operating each with its film parallel to the screen but inclined to the axis of the projector.
