Rearing - appliances. -A brooder for chicks &c. comprises a hover mounted so as to be movable verticallv in a shed, in which heating pipes 1 are arranged near the ground. The hover consists of a roof 6 with side members 5 carrying slit curtains 22 which is movable between guides 4 by means of cords 9, pulleys 8, and a winding - gear 12. Endpieces 14 which fit the hover are fixed to the lower end of the guides 4, and the pipes 1 pass through the ends, the length of pipe outside the ends being lagged. When lowered the hover encloses the pipes 1, and a heat-deflecting board 18, which, according to the Provisional Specification, may be of asbestos, rests upon the pipes. The board 18 is carried by transverse members 20 engaging in recesses 21 which allow vertical play so that the hover may be adjusted through a short distance without moving the board.
