Capsules.-Apparatus for filling and sealing medical cachets or capsules comprises means for receiving the empty cachets, for removing the lower half cachet and filling it, for moistening the upper half cachet, for bringing the two halves together to seal the cachet, and for ejecting the sealed cachet from the machine. The apparatus comprises a feeder 1 mounted on a bridge-piece 3, Figs. 1 and 2, which straddles a horizontally movable slide 2. A receiver 5, Figs. 2 and 5, is supported beneath the slide by pins 41, 11 engaging slots 4 in the bridge-piece 3, and is pressed upwardly by a spring 6. The slide, Fig. 4, is provided with an aperture 7 for the passage of the capsules to the receiver 5, a damping roller 15, a hopper 12 controlled by a slide 14, and an ejecting lug 17, and is formed with cam surfaces 9, 16 which co-operate with the pins 11 on the receiver 5 to give the latter the requisite vertical movement. The empty cachets are placed in the feeder 1 with a spacing disk 8 between the halves of each cachet. In operation, starting from the position shown in Fig. 7, the receiver 5 carrying the lower half capsule is pressed downwards by the cam surface 9 as the slide is moved in the direction of the arrow, the spacing disk 8 is carried forward by the slide and ejected, the roller 15 passes across the upper half capsule, and the hopper 12 comes over the lower half capsule as shown in Fig. 8, and its slide 14 is retracted to discharge the contents. On returning the slide, the upper half cachet is again damped, the lower half brought into contact with its upper half, the receiver lowered by cam action, and the completed cachet ejected by the lug 17.
