Explosives.-Relates to grains of propellant explosives coated with a deterrent material such as dinitrotoluene, and consists in subjecting the explosive to a heat-treatment in the presence of the deterrent mixed with a substance adapted to lower the melting-point of the deterrent. For example, the explosive is rumbled in a drum with a mixture of dinitrotoluene and camphor, to which diphenylamine may be added; the drum is allowed to stand over night, then rumbling is again performed, this time at a temperature of 65‹ C., and graphite is added in two stages, first to prevent the grains from sticking, and finally to complete the glazing of the grains.
