Intaglio-plate printing; printing-apparatus combined with paper heating and drying apparatus; tripping, throw-out, and like arrangements.-A machine for photogravure or intaglio printing on both sides of a web comprises two printing-cylinders with their impression bowls arranged in one frame or head at one end of the machine so that the web travels in a more or less vertical path. The printing-cylinders or their bowls may be simultaneously adjusted. A drying-roller is provided for the web, which then passes over one or more water-cooled rollers for cooling the web. The web A is fed from a roll A1 over drawing-rollers a and a saddle b to the printing-mechanism, which comprises end frames f in which the bowls g, g1 and printing- cylinders h, h1 are mounted. Both sets are driven from the main driving-shaft i. The cylinders h, h1 are adjustably carried by levers p. q which are connected to a weighted lever n. A hand-lever t having a cam t2 is provided for tripping the cylinders. The bowls g, g1 may be adjusted by means of screw spindles u actuated by bevel-gears v; the bevel-gears may be interconnected. A blanket m passes over the second backing-bowl g1. The web is dried by a revolving steam-heated or other drying-cylinder k and then passes round a rotatable cooling- roller l which contains water or has cooling- liquid circulating through it, the shafts and supporting-bracliets being for this purpose made hollow.
